Enabling students to bridge international and cultural distances, since 1992.

An inter-district magnet high school in Norwalk, CT, the Center for Global Studies focuses on teaching the languages, culture, history, and literature of China, Japan, and the Middle East.

Through the study of Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese, and also our language and cultural immersion study tours overseas, we provide our students opportunities to become informed, active, compassionate scholars and global citizens.

A Global Strategy for Education

The Center for Global Studies adopts a method of learning that transcends borders—it looks on multiple aspects of international influences towards each subject. This in turn, enriches the student’s potential for open-mindedness and eventually transforms them into intellectual, global citizens.

Challenging, Inquiry-Based Curriculum

At CGS, inquiry is the foundation of all learning. Giving students the opportunity to learn how to ask good questions paves the way for insightful thinking, research, and writing.

When students arrive as 9th-graders, they are enrolled into all honors-level courses; when they advance to 11th and 12th grade, they have the option of taking college-level courses such as Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or even dual-enrollment at Norwalk Community College.

All students take four years of Arabic, Chinese, or Japanese. A testament to our successful language programs have had students place in the top 10 of national competitions (see Japan Bowl Competition), win seals of bi-literacy, and earn US State Department Critical Language Scholarships.

Active, Interdisciplinary Thinking

We believe that academic disciplines belong together, not in isolation. Therefore, our students experience integrated classrooms (online and on-campus) where they articulate the interactions between science and history, culture and literature, and health and mathematics.
